After spending some time in the Dubai and Kabul airports, I began to wonder some things, but chiefly this: is the use of deodorant a sign of colonial submission, and various people groups of the world refuse to use it in order to demonstrate solidarity with their previously oppressed colonial ancestors or currently oppressed peoples of the world? Or are we in the West so out of touch with ourselves and our own bodies that we fail to see the value in one's own natural scent?
Either way, it's a different set of odors, that much is certain.
Arrived safely in Kabul, found my driver, got the briefing on local threats, etc. I'm currently in a compound where I have my own room, internet access, and a fairly sizable comfortable bed with an air conditioner I can control. So far I like this. Guess I'm here for a couple of days, then it's off to wherever I'm headed next.
